Dr Paul Jenkins is a Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist.
He qualified with a degree in Medical Sciences at Cambridge University; and undertook his clinical training at The Royal London Hospital. Shortly afterwards he joined the internationally renowned Department of Endocrinology at St Bartholomew's Hospital, where he gained unrivalled experience in clinical endocrinology. After completing his MD research degree he was appointed as Senior Lecturer and then Reader in Endocrinology and Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist. For over 10 years he also ran the Endocrine service at Homerton University Hospital. Within the Medical School, he was Dean for Pre-Registration Doctors and an enthusiastic teacher of undergraduate students across all years. He led an active research group into the interactions between hormones and cancer and has published more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific papers in this field as well as writing several books and textbook chapters.
In 2009, he decided to devote more time to clinical work and after 20 years in practice established The London Endocrine Centre where he is the senior consultant. Dr Jenkins has a particular interest in disorders of the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands, as well as diabetes. He has also developed considerable expertise in the diagnosis and management of chronic fatigue and more recently long Covid. He firmly believes in a holistic approach to his patients with his consultations allowing plenty of time to discuss all of their concerns and wishes before fully involving them in a shared approach to their optimum management.

Dr Paul Jenkins listens, demonstrating a professional, knowledgeable, and thorough approach to patient care, which many find reassuring. He diagnoses and treats complex endocrine conditions like hypothyroidism and post-viral fatigue. Patients often find his specific treatments, such as liothyronine, life-changing. Some patients mention his direct or brisk manner can be initially disconcerting, yet others appreciate his straightforward style. His expertise in thyroid conditions and managing fatigue greatly improves patients' overall health and wellbeing.
Dr Jenkins has changed my life. I first saw Dr Jenkins in April 2024, and he immediately made me feel seen and understood. I was in my early 30s, fit and healthy, but my body wasn't my own. It didn't make sense, and I had spent my entire adult life getting nowhere, and going around in circles with appointments. I made the decision to come to Dr Jenkins, and it was the first time I ever felt truly listened to. He made me feel so seen and heard, and validated everything I said. Immediately he had a plan, and had diagnosed me within one round of bloods with three conditions (one of which I was already being treated for but not optimally). Following this, I've been monitored and coached and the difference I now feel is incredible. My body finally feels like it works properly, its like a switch has been flicked, and I have my life back. I will continue to see Dr Jenkins and for anyone who has struggled and doesn't know where to look - look here. Health is wealth, and this remains the best decision I have ever made. Thank you Dr Jenkins, Suzanne, and all the team at the London Endocrine Centre.
As usual, I found Dr Jenkins to be very personable and caring. He took the time to understand my health status since our last meeting six months prior, provided feedback, and proposed my focus and supporting medication for the next six months. Dr Jenkins has been fundamental in my ability to manage CFS/ME as well as thyroid problems, and indeed to get back to having an active, functional life. His knowledge and understanding of these issues are second to none, in my experience.
As someone navigating insulin resistance and hormonal shifts in my mid 50s, I needed more than textbook advice. Dr Jenkins offered a structured, medically coherent path forward, one that respected the complexity of my symptoms and the urgency of my goals. His guidance helped me stabilise insuline levels, reframe my nutritional strategy, and re-engage with my health journey in a way that feels both sustainable and empowering.
If I had met Dr Jenkins three years ago, my health would have been in a much better place already. Better late than never. I have been seeing specialists for individual symptoms over the past three years, some of them misdiagnosed and mistreated my condition. It was only Dr Jenkins that recognised the systemic nature of my complaints and I am already feeling a great deal better and optimistic about the future. Highly recommended!
Dr Jenkins is absolutely fantastic - he’s so proactive in getting to the bottom of the issue, then helping you to come up with a solution. He’s patient, understanding, and I would recommend him to anyone!
Dr Jenkins treated me for long COVID for about a year and his experience and recommendations were very valuable for my recovery, which took around a year. Very grateful for the care and insights into this largely unknown condition
I had my first endocrinology appointment with Dr Jenkins. He gaslit me very hard during this appointment. He tried to hard sell me on medication when I had already explained to him I have issues with pharmaceuticals due to MCAS. He spent the whole appointment talking about my unrelated previously diagnosed medical conditions, instead of my hypothyroidism symptoms and what to expect when first starting levothyroxine, like side effects etc. I came away feeling very unprepared for starting treatment. On top of that I asked him to write me a diagnostic letter. The letter he wrote was filled with inaccurate information as he did not listen to me properly, and did not properly diagnose cause as I had specifically asked for. He did not listen or accept my opinion as I know my body and symptoms better than anyone, but to him because I'm not a doctor, well then, I can't possibly know anything. This doctor also actively removes negative reviews about himself, so I imagine this one won't even get published. I left this appointment in tears and have now had to pay out for a new endocrinologist.

I am very sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with our recent consultation and I apologise if you believed I gaslit you and did not give you the opportunity to fully describe all of your concerns. My approach with all my patients is to listen very carefully to all of their symptoms and to then try and tease out those issues which I believe may be contributing. It has been my experience over the years that it is not always straightforward to attribute a constellation of symptoms to a single specific cause such as hypothyroidism as a number of other medical conditions frequently play a role. In order to clarify all these responsible factors, it is usually necessary to perform appropriate investigations so as to achieve the correct diagnosis. I am sorry that you felt unable to attend for these investigations. I would certainly never hard sell any medications but always explain the pros and cons of any that I might recommend; however, it is difficult to treat an underactive thyroid gland without thyroid medications. I do hope that you find the answers that you are seeking with a different endocrinologist.
I was referred to Dr Jenkins 20+ years ago by my GP, I was then diagnosed with an under-active thyroid. I have seen Dr Jenkins twice yearly since then, and have had the most outstanding care. He has highlighted many other issues for me, (too many to mention) including a severe heart problem that undoubtedly would have led to heart attacks or worse. I have always found him pleasant and very easy to talk to. I cannot express how grateful I am to him for his care, and would recommend him wholeheartedly.
I wish i had met Dr Jenkins twenty years ago. Diagnosed with an underactive thyroid at age 21, I struggled for years with what I now know to be undertreatment. After fighting with accessing NHS services locally, I sought a specialist opinion, and I will be forever grateful for finding Dr Jenkins. For the first time in over 20 years of intervention, I was examined thoroughly and received a comprehensive assessment of my physical health. Dr Jenkins knowledge and expertise are second to none. He told me exactly what he thought was happening, and my blood results showed he was 100% right in his diagnostic formulation. He recommended a small dose of liothyronine, adjunct to my levothyroxine, which in the UK is not provided/offered routinely by the NHS due to national guidance and local prescribing policies. This medication has been simply life-changing. The medication itself costs pennies. and for the first time in years, I am functioning; my hair isn't falling out, I'm losing weight in a healthy and sustainable manner, I am functioning at home and at work, and I no longer snore, much to my husband's delight! Most importantly, the positive impact on my long-term health outcomes has been priceless. I have recommended Dr Jenkins to a number of people and told them all the same: his consultation fees will be the best money you have ever spent! I cannot thank Dr Jenkins and Suzanne enough for the care they have provided.
Dr Jenkins has turned my life around. He took the time to listen and investigate. I am incredibly grateful to him. It is refreshing to see a no nonsence doctor, who looks at the whole person and doesn't dismiss your feelings or symptons.
