His specialist work covers the full spectrum of paediatric chest problems, with particular expertise in cystic fibrosis, difficult asthma, chronic cough, sleep-disordered breathing, and complex respiratory disease.

Royal Brompton Hospital is a major referral centre for heart and lung disease, and Dr. Rosenthal works within highly specialised services for children with complex respiratory needs. His clinical interests include cystic fibrosis, primary ciliary dyskinesia, severe asthma, non-invasive ventilation, sleep medicine, and food allergy, as well as the assessment of persistent or unexplained respiratory symptoms in children.

Dr. Rosenthal graduated in 1981 with honours, achieving distinctions in paediatrics, surgery, and pathology, and receiving six undergraduate prizes. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1984 and was later accredited as a paediatrician with a special interest in neonatal medicine. He was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 1996 and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1999.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr. Rosenthal has a longstanding academic and research career. His principal research interests are respiratory physiology and cystic fibrosis, and he has authored more than 115 peer-reviewed publications across a wide range of paediatric respiratory topics.

He is also an internationally recognised educator and speaker, having delivered lectures across Europe, the USA, Japan, Peru, and South Africa. His international academic and clinical appointments have included Visiting Professor of Respiratory Paediatrics at Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University and visiting consultant roles in Ukraine, Qatar, and Greece.
