Dr Jude Oben

Dr Jude Oben is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, Obesity and Metabolic Physician and clinician scientist. His specialist interests centre on metabolic health and its relationship with liver disease and type 2 diabetes, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), obesity and metabolic endoscopy.

His academic background spans medicine, pharmacology, immunology and hepatology. Dr Oben studied medicine at the University of Oxford, with research experience in immunology at Stanford University in the USA. After postgraduate medical training, he initially pursued specialist training in ophthalmology before changing his focus to gastroenterology and hepatology. He also completed a PhD in Pharmacology at University College London and spent two years undertaking postdoctoral fellowship training at Johns Hopkins University in the USA.

Dr Oben's research has explored the mechanisms involved in liver disease and repair, including interactions between the autonomic nervous system and liver repair. His research interests also encompass type 2 diabetes, liver fibrosis and the trans-generational transmission of obesity and NASH.

His contributions to gastroenterology and hepatology have received recognition from professional and research organisations. Dr Oben is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
