About Dr John Corless
Dr John Corless is a Consultant Chest and Respiratory Physician who practises privately at Spire Murrayfield Hospital Wirral and has an NHS practice at Arrowe Park Hospital, Wirral.
He has been a consultant since 2001 and has extensive experience across all areas of respiratory medicine. He maintains a busy clinical practice at both sites and continues to work in senior leadership roles within the NHS. He is the Associate Medical Director for the Medical Division at Arrowe Park Hospital.
His clinical work covers the investigation and management of a wide range of conditions including asthma, COPD, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, respiratory infections, sarcoidosis, asbestos-related lung disease. He works closely with Mr Rob Peat, specialist respiratory physiologist to support diagnostic and treatment pathways.
Dr Corless has been President of the North West Thoracic Society (2024–2025) and acts as an expert medical witness in asbestos-related lung disease.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London and Edinburgh, a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and a Fellow of the Expert Witness Institute. He is a member of the British Thoracic Society, European Respiratory Society and the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland.
Dr Corless does not manage patients with sleep-related conditions.

Dr Corless listened to my explanation of the reason for my visit, asked a series of follow-up questions, examined me, identified a number of tests to be done and arranged a follow-up visit in a fortnight to review the results. I couldn’t have asked for more and the appointment with my wife and me was conducted as always with courtesy and good humour.
Having had my symptoms dismissed over 3 months and numerous times as post viral I finally went private, I was listened to, diagnosed and reassured and undertook all breathing tests the same day with a prescription to begin my journey back to normality. Dr Corless was amazing
