Dr. James Uprichard is a Consultant Haematologist with an interest in blood transfusion, anaemia, haemostasis and inherited or acquired bleeding disorders. He also works at St George's Hospital in Tooting, London – a major trauma centre – where he manages the coagulopathy of trauma patients. In addition, Dr. Uprichard leads the clinical team for blood transfusions and oversees care for patients who refuse blood transfusions.
After graduating from University College London in 1996, Dr. Uprichard completed senior house officer posts at Hammersmith Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. He then went on to complete a PhD thesis on rare bleeding disorders before beginning registrar training in haematology in North West Thames region. In 2007, he was appointed as Clinical Lecturer in Haemostasis at Imperial College London; during this time his research included global tests of coagulation among pregnant women and those taking anticoagulants. After spending a year as a fellowships clinician with North Thames Haemophilia Network and completing an elective on haemostasis at Bethesda's National Institutes of Health (USA), he returned to the United Kingdom where he was appointed consultant haeamtologist to St George's University Hospitals and NHS Foundation Trust.
