Dr Ismail Khan is a UK-trained Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist on the GMC Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He specialises in the assessment and management of ADHD, Autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions. He holds full GMC registration with a licence to practise, is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych), and is both Section 12 and Approved Clinician approved under the Mental Health Act. He currently works full-time as a Consultant Psychiatrist in a specialist neurodevelopmental role with Psychiatry-UK, a private provider working in partnership with the NHS under Right to Choose.
His core clinical focus is Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, with a particular emphasis on neurodevelopmental assessment across adolescents aged 17 and over, young adults, and adults. His assessments are formulation-based and draw on detailed developmental history, personal and family history, systemic and social context, past medical and psychiatric history, structured risk assessment, and screening for comorbid conditions. He places strong emphasis on collateral information, careful differential diagnosis, and alignment with DSM diagnostic criteria. Autism assessments are conducted jointly with a specialist nurse or other multidisciplinary team colleague.
Prior to his current post, Dr Khan worked as a Locum Consultant CAMHS Psychiatrist with Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Trust, where he led a community CAMHS multidisciplinary team and supervised junior doctors. He also undertook an acting-up Consultant role in CAMHS in Telford from 2024 to 2025, where he led the MDT, ran outpatient clinics, and supervised middle-grade and specialty doctors.
Earlier in his career, he completed Core Psychiatry Training on the Black Country Scheme from 2018 to 2022, gaining broad experience across general adult psychiatry, older adult services, CAMHS, learning disabilities, psychiatric intensive care, and assertive outreach. He has also held a Trust Grade SHO post in Paediatrics at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust and worked as a Clinical Teaching Assistant at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in Riyadh.
