About

Professor Anthony Warrens is a Consultant Renal Physician at the Royal London Hospital. He is also Dean for Education and Director of the Institute of Health Sciences Education (IHSE) at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry (Barts).

Professor Warrens qualified from Glasgow University and continued his clinical training at Oxford University Medical School and in several hospitals in London. He obtained a PhD from the Hammersmith Hospital, London and undertook a post-doctoral fellowship in Boston at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He then returned to the UK and took up a post as Consultant Renal Physician and Senior Lecturer at Hammersmith Hospital. He became Professor of Renal and Transplantation Medicine at Imperial in 2008.

Professor Warrens has extensive experience in all areas of renal medicine and hypertension. He is particularly interested in immunological disease and renal transplantation and is a world-renowned expert in these areas. He is President of the British Transplantation Society and a member of the Department of Health's Advisory Committee on Safety in Blood, Tissues and Organs and the UK Donation Ethics Committee.

Professor Warrens has a keen interest in research. He is particularly focused on attitudes to organ transplantation and mechanisms of organ rejection and has published extensively on these topics.
