Dr David Neilly

Mr David Neilly is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Aberdeen, specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery and the management of sports-related knee injuries. His NHS elective practice is based at Woodend Hospital, where he provides surgical treatment for a wide range of degenerative and traumatic hip and knee conditions.

Mr Neilly graduated in Medicine from the University of Aberdeen in 2010, having previously completed a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences with Physiology. He completed specialist orthopaedic training through the North of Scotland training programme and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS Tr & Orth) in 2019.

Following his specialist training, Mr Neilly undertook advanced fellowship training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in South Australia. During this time, he gained additional expertise in MAKO robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement surgery at Burnside Hospital under the supervision of recognised leaders in robotic joint replacement. His skillset includes robotic-assisted techniques for hip and knee arthroplasty alongside conventional joint replacement procedures.

In addition to joint replacement surgery, Mr Neilly has helped develop the adolescent Acute Knee Service within NHS Grampian and has experience in the management of sports knee injuries, including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and meniscal repair surgery. His practice also includes the assessment and treatment of knee pain, cartilage injuries and degenerative joint disease, using both surgical and non-surgical treatment approaches where appropriate.
