Mr Chukwuma Abraham-Igwe

Mr Chukwuma Abraham-Igwe is a Consultant Surgeon with over 25 years’ experience, specialising in hernia repair and general surgery. He is recognised for his expertise in complex abdominal wall hernias and minimally invasive techniques, offering both open and laparoscopic approaches. His NHS practice is based at Heartlands Hospital, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, and he sees private patients at The Harborne Hospital and The Priory Hospital, Birmingham.

After earning his MBBS from the University of Nigeria in 1992, Mr Abraham-Igwe moved to the UK, completing a Master’s in Surgical Science at Imperial College London and achieving Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has a particular interest in complex, large, and recurrent incisional hernias, often performing abdominal wall reconstruction with mesh reinforcement to restore strength and function.

Alongside his civilian practice, Mr Abraham-Igwe serves as a military surgeon, with multiple deployments , and has extensive experience in trauma surgery. A committed educator and GMC-approved trainer, he mentors surgical trainees and teaches advanced hernia repair techniques. His patient-centred approach combines meticulous surgical skill with a focus on fast recovery, minimal discomfort, and long-term results.
