Mr Christopher Munro

Mr Christopher Munro is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Aberdeen, specialising in lower limb surgery with expertise in hip and knee replacement, hip preservation surgery and orthopaedic trauma. He has been a Consultant with NHS Grampian since 2018, practising across Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Woodend General Hospital, while also providing a visiting orthopaedic service to the Orkney Isles.

Mr Munro graduated in Medicine from the University of Aberdeen in 2007 before completing specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics through the North of Scotland training programme. He subsequently undertook advanced fellowship training in Trauma and Lower Limb Arthroplasty in Adelaide, South Australia, where he gained extensive experience in primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery alongside the management of complex lower limb trauma.

His elective practice focuses on primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, including MAKO robotic-assisted total hip replacement, total knee replacement and partial knee replacement. He also performs direct anterior muscle-sparing hip replacement for appropriate patients and specialises in hip preservation surgery, including hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement and labral tears. He is the only surgeon in the North of Scotland to provide this specialist hip arthroscopy service.

Alongside elective surgery, Mr Munro is an active member of the North of Scotland Major Trauma Centre, treating complex fractures, non-union injuries, post-traumatic arthritis and periprosthetic fractures. He also manages a range of hand and foot conditions, including base of thumb arthritis, tendinopathies, bunions and forefoot arthritis. In addition, he is involved in the training of orthopaedic registrars and contributes to research and service development within NHS Grampian.
