Mr Bashaar Aweid is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery, sports injuries and joint reconstruction. He is based at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London and also serves as a Senior Clinical Teacher at Imperial College London. His clinical practice combines expertise in soft-tissue knee surgery, ligament reconstruction and knee arthroplasty, supported by specialist fellowship training in the United Kingdom and Denmark. Alongside his clinical responsibilities, he contributes to surgical education, medical research and clinical safety improvement.
Mr Aweid specialises in the assessment and surgical management of adult knee conditions, including knee arthritis, sports-related injuries, ligament damage, meniscal tears and knee instability. His areas of expertise include knee arthroscopy, ACL and other ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair, patellofemoral disorders, partial and total knee replacement, and joint-preserving procedures. His specialist interests span both soft-tissue knee surgery and knee arthroplasty, enabling him to manage conditions ranging from sports injuries to advanced degenerative joint disease.
Mr Aweid was appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2024, following completion of his specialist training and post-CCT fellowship in knee surgery at Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. In 2024, he undertook a visiting fellowship in sports knee traumatology at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark under Professor Martin Lind. He became a Senior Clinical Teacher at Imperial College London in 2025. His additional professional responsibilities include surgical site infection leadership at Hillingdon Hospital, involvement in surgical education and research, and advocacy for sports injury prevention through the charity Power Up to Play.
Mr Aweid’s clinical practice focuses on evidence-based assessment and treatment planning tailored to each patient’s condition, functional requirements and recovery goals. His work encompasses both surgical and joint-preserving approaches, with treatment options informed by the nature of the injury, the extent of joint damage and the patient’s individual circumstances.
