Dr. Balan Palinappan

Dr Balan Palaniappan is a Consultant Radiologist currently practicing at Darcy Healthcare, with specialist expertise in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary radiology, general cross-sectional imaging, general ultrasound, gynaecological radiology, and uroradiology. He completed his medical degree (MBBS) in 1994 at Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University in Chennai, India, before relocating to the UK, where he became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists.

Appointed as a Consultant Radiologist at Cwm Taf University Health Board in 2009, Dr Palaniappan has held several leadership roles, including Radiology Clinical Director (2015–2019) and Clinical Cancer Lead (2018–2020). He has also contributed nationally in Wales as the Prostate Diagnostics Pathway Clinical Lead and as a Radiologist Trainer for the Imaging Academy Wales.

His key areas of interest lie in oncology imaging, with a focus on gastrointestinal and genito-urinary cancer diagnostics. He has particular expertise in multi-parametric prostate MRI and prostate biopsy, enhancing the accuracy of prostate cancer detection and management. With over two decades of clinical experience, Dr Palaniappan is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred diagnostic care.
