Mr Ayman Ali is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon at the Royal United Hospitals NHS Trust in Bath, where he led the introduction and development of the robotic urological surgery programme following his appointment in April 2023. He is a high volume robotic radical prostatectomy surgeon, having performed 250 robotic prostatectomies in the past couple of years. He has a particular focus on minimally invasive surgery — endourological and robotic surgery — which for patients can mean less pain, shorter hospital stays and a quicker return to everyday activities.
Mr Ali trained at leading robotic surgery centres across Europe and the United Kingdom. He undertook robotic urology training at Heidelberg University in Germany, European centre of excellence in robotic urology, before later completing further training in the UK. This included robotic pelvic oncology at the Royal Surrey, one of the highest-volume robotic pelvic oncology centres in the country, and an Intuitive-accredited robotic fellowship at the busy Portsmouth University Hospitals, where he gained comprehensive experience in robotic surgery for both pelvic and kidney conditions. This breadth of training underpins his work in complex cancer surgery and nerve-sparing technique in
prostatectomy.
Having established the robotic programme at the Royal United Hospitals, Mr Ali developed a day-case prostatectomy pathway that allows carefully selected men to return home on the same day as their surgery. Currently offered by only a handful number of hospitals in the UK, the pathway forms part of his commitment to faster recovery and patient-centred care. His work in this area has been recognised nationally through his selection as a Prostate Cancer UK Clinical Champion.
In addition to his expertise in robotic surgery, prostate cancer surgery and prostate cancer diagnostics, Mr Ali provides comprehensive care across the full spectrum of urological conditions. He has expertise in the management of benign prostate enlargement, offering medical, endoscopic and minimally invasive treatments to improve urinary flow and bladder emptying. He also specialises in the minimally invasive treatment of urinary tract and kidney stones, including ureteroscopy and laser stone fragmentation and removal, where appropriate.
His practice also includes the diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer, with procedures including cystoscopy, bladder tumour assessment and transurethral resection removal of bladder tumours.
Mr Ali also provides specialist treatment for testicular cancer and other testicular conditions, including assessment of all testicular lumps and appropriate surgical management. His expertise in urinary tract infections includes investigation and treatment of recurrent or complicated infections, together with assessment and management of underlying urological causes where identified. He treats a range of scrotal conditions, offering specialist assessment, ultrasound investigation where required, and medical or surgical treatment depending on the diagnosis. In addition, Mr Ali providescomprehensive assessment and treatment for erectile dysfunction, including medical treatment and other appropriate therapies tailored to the individual
patient.
Mr Ali has been a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 2020 and holds a Master’s degree and Doctorate in Urology. His Master’s research focused on prostate cancer, particularly castration-resistant prostate cancer, reflecting his commitment to advancing prostate cancer care. His Doctoral research explored minimally invasive treatments for kidney stones, further demonstrating his longstanding commitment to surgical innovation and improving patient outcomes.
Mr Ali is committed to delivering outstanding, evidence based, patient-centred care. By combining advanced surgical technology with a compassionate and individualised approach, he strives to achieve the best possible outcomes while ensuring patients feel informed, supported, and confident throughout their treatment journey.
