Ms Aparna Viswanath

Miss Aparna Viswanath is a highly skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in disorders of the shoulder and elbow, with additional expertise in complex trauma affecting the wrist. She is known for her meticulous and patient-centred approach, combining advanced surgical expertise with a strong emphasis on education, rehabilitation and long-term joint health. Her clinical practice focuses on accurate diagnosis, clear communication and carefully tailored treatment plans designed to restore comfort, movement and function.

Miss Viswanath graduated from King’s College London in 2007 and completed higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics within the East of England Deanery. She went on to undertake advanced fellowship training in internationally recognised centres, including specialist shoulder and elbow fellowships in Auckland, New Zealand, Wrightington Hospital and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, further refining her expertise in complex upper limb surgery.

Appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2021, she serves patients across Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough and North Yorkshire. She also offers private consultations at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington, seeing both self-paying and insured patients.

In addition to her clinical work, Miss Viswanath plays an active role in national professional organisations, including the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, and contributes to surgical education and research. She is involved in ongoing academic work through the York National Trials Unit and is widely engaged in training the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.
