About Dr. Anthony Waring
Dr Waring is a Consultant in Sports, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine in London, specialising in the non-surgical treatment of musculoskeletal pain, osteoarthritis and sports injuries. He has particular expertise in bone stress injuries and stress fractures, adolescent sport and musculoskeletal conditions, and tendon problems.
Dr Waring is currently Chief Medical Officer at Surrey Women's Cricket Club. He has extensive experience working across team and individual sports, including with The Football Association, Fulham Football Club and British Athletics.
Dr Waring uses point-of-care diagnostic ultrasound as part of his assessment process and works within a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient health and support a safe return to full function. He can advise on shockwave therapy and injection based treatments (including steroid, hyaluronic acid, PRP and Arthrosamid) as adjuncts in patient care.
Dr Waring graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2009 and completed a Masters in Sport and Exercise Medicine with Distinction at Queen Mary University of London in 2012. He undertook his Core Medical Training in London, obtaining his MRCP in 2014, followed by the FSEM Intercollegiate Faculty Diploma in 2016. In 2017, he completed a PGCert in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound with Distinction from the University of Bournemouth.
He went on to complete Higher Specialist Training in Sport and Exercise Medicine in London, with placements at Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore), and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court.

Dr Waring established a great rapport with our teenage son from the first appointment, putting him at ease while he questioned him about his back injury. He explained clearly what he was doing throughout his assessment, and took time and care to explain the results of the subsequent MRI scan which showed a spinal stress fracture. He also discussed the different factors which had contributed to this injury, educating our son about how to train for his sport and the importance of allowing time in his schedule for his body to recover, grow and repair. We were given a detailed prognosis of the spinal stress fracture, and provided with a clear rehabilitation protocol to get him back to sport. I was impressed that he was able to get our sports mad teen to agree to adhere to the rehabilitation plan, which was somewhat restrictive in the early stages. I would highly recommend Dr Waring for any sports injury.

I saw Dr Waring regarding pain in my leg from running. He suspected a bone stress injury so referred me for an MRI quickly. He gave me clear guidance on exactly what I should/shouldn’t do and timelines for when I could return to various activities. He referred me for further investigations to see if there was anything causing the injury and again, gave clear guidance. He was great to deal with and I’m going to be back running exactly when he said I would be.
