Miss Anna Gkountelia

Miss Anna Gkountelia is a Consultant Ophthalmic and Oculoplastic Surgeon with extensive experience in both aesthetic and reconstructive eyelid conditions. After qualifying from the National & Kapodistrian Medical School of Athens in 2004, she completed her initial postgraduate ophthalmology training in Greece before moving to the UK to further her subspecialist expertise. Following three and a half years of UK specialist training across Reading, Cambridge, and London, she completed advanced fellowships in Oculoplastics, Orbital, and Lacrimal Surgery, including a prestigious fellowship at the multidisciplinary craniofacial unit at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital where she gained expertise in complex skin cancer reconstruction, thyroid eye disease, and periocular trauma.

In her clinical practice, she provides comprehensive adult and paediatric oculoplastic care, managing everything from post-Mohs surgery reconstruction to watery eyes and periocular trauma. She has served as the Lead for Eye Casualty services at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) since January 2020, actively managing emergency eye care and collaborating across London trusts to enhance emergency and out-of-hours ophthalmic services. Alongside her clinical and leadership responsibilities, Miss Gkountelia is a passionate advocate for multidisciplinary education who regularly facilitates training sessions for ST1, ST2, and ST4 ophthalmology doctors, actively participates in weekly clinical meetings and monthly governance, and directly supports local primary care services with ophthalmology queries and referrals.
