Dr Alan Shaw

I qualified in 2004, having studied at the University of Cambridge, and University College London. I trained as a specialist in Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine, predominantly in London hospitals, qualifying as a consultant in 2017 and taking up a Consultant Physician position at the Whittington Hospital, where I carry out my NHS practice.

I hold Honorary positions at UCLH, for my Lung Cancer work, and at UCL for my teaching.

I am active in research, and hold Principal Investigator posts in a number of studies.

Throughout my career, my approach to medicine has been to form a partnership with patients to understand the underlying cause of their symptoms, and provide treatment and monitoring to a greater or lesser extent depending on the patient's preferences.

My approach to diagnosis is grounded in comprehensive history taking, examination skills and judicious use of investigations.

There is an increasing range of potential treatments in respiratory medicine. My role is to lay out the options for patients and give the benefit of my experience in making the right choice for every individual.
