Mr. Abhijit Mohite is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a special focus on glaucoma and complex cataract surgery. He graduated with two degrees from the University of Bristol - a Bachelor of Science in Anatomical Sciences (BSc Hons) and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). Following this, he completed a comprehensive seven-year surgical residency in ophthalmology, during which time he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). His training included an 18-month advanced sub-specialty residency in glaucoma, followed by an 18-month senior glaucoma fellowship in complex glaucoma surgery at the prestigious Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre, one of Europe’s largest tertiary ophthalmic referral centres.
Abhijit holds a full-time substantive NHS post at the Wolverhampton and Midland Counties Eye Infirmary, where he provides a general, cataract, and emergency ophthalmology service as well as a comprehensive interventional glaucoma service. His private practice is at the renowned Midland Eye Private Clinic based in Solihull.
He is actively involved in teaching and training ophthalmology residents, medical students, optometrists, and clinical nurse specialists, and serves as a cataract and glaucoma surgical trainer for resident surgeons. He recently received the runner-up award for the pan-regional West Midlands School of Ophthalmology Outstanding Trainer Award (2025) for his teaching and training contributions, an accolade nominated by the West Midlands Ophthalmology Residents themselves.
Abhijit’s clinical and research interests include high-volume state of the art microincision cataract surgery, complex cataract surgery, premium intraocular lens implants for greater spectacle independence, selective laser trabeculoplasty, all forms of minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), and glaucoma filtration procedures such as mitomycin-augmented trabeculectomy and glaucoma drainage device implants.
Since 2018, he has been performing implant-free MIGS procedures in the form of iTrack ab-interno canaloplasty (ABiC) and gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT), introducing these techniques to his NHS Trust in 2022. Abhijit is now one of the highest-volume iTrack surgeons in the UK but also undertakes a high-volume of trabecular micro-bypass (iStent inject and iStent infinite) and Ahmed ClearPath implant procedures, each tailored to patient-specific needs.
He has authored multiple scientific publications in high impact peer-reviewed ophthalmic journals and has also written a textbook chapter on glaucoma surgery. Abhijit has regularly presented his work at national and international meetings over the last 17 years, and has won multiple prizes at academic conferences for his work.
