Dr Abdullah Mawas

Dr Abdullah Mawas is a Consultant Physician and Consultant Gastroenterologist with interests in wellbeing, obesity management and liver disease. He is a UK-trained specialist holding CCTs in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. He is SCOPE certified in obesity management and holds an MSc from the University of Aberdeen, alongside MRCP(UK) and higher medical qualifications.

Dr Mawas qualified in medicine in 1993, undertaking medical education and training in Syria and the United Kingdom. He completed specialist training through the East of England Deanery (Cambridge), with rotations across hospitals in Aberdeen, Glasgow and the East of England. His practice developed focused expertise in gastroenterology, liver disease, advanced endoscopy and obesity medicine.

He undertook further international fellowship training in bariatric endoscopy in São Paulo, Brazil, and at the European Centre of Excellence in Fürth, Germany, and has attended specialist bariatric workshops in Brazil and Spain. His interventional practice includes primary endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty and endoscopic revision procedures for weight regain following bariatric surgery.

Dr Mawas has been a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist at West Suffolk Hospital since 2012 and is an Honorary Consultant in Obesity Medicine at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is also Medical Director at Polyclinic Healthcare UK, where he provides assessment and evidence-based management for patients with obesity and gastrointestinal conditions.
