Mr Abdallah Sharqawi

Mr Abdallah Sharqawi is a Consultant Urologist based in Bolton, providing specialist urological care across Greater Manchester and the North West of England. His specialist interests include benign prostate enlargement (BPH), HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate), minimally invasive prostate treatments including Rezūm and UroLift, and complex urethral reconstruction.

Mr Sharqawi played a key role in establishing the HoLEP service at Royal Bolton Hospital in 2021, which has since developed into a regional referral service for patients with complex or challenging prostate conditions. He also has extensive experience in urethral reconstruction and offers a comprehensive range of treatments for urethral strictures, including urethroplasty and other reconstructive techniques.

He also provides comprehensive general urological care, including the investigation and treatment of urinary symptoms, urinary tract stones, recurrent urinary infections and haematuria, as well as the diagnosis and management of urological cancers. His broad surgical experience enables him to offer patients a range of treatment options, with an emphasis on individualised care and shared decision-making.

Mr Sharqawi graduated in Medicine from Suez Canal University in Egypt, where he subsequently completed postgraduate training and an MD in Urology. He undertook his specialist urological and surgical training in both Egypt and the UK, including at University College London Hospitals.

He is the Urology Cancer Lead at Royal Bolton Hospital, where he has been closely involved in developing and improving prostate cancer diagnostic pathways and wider urological cancer services.

Mr Sharqawi has a strong interest in medical education and research. He teaches medical students, junior doctors and specialist urology trainees. He has authored and contributed to peer-reviewed publications and presented his research nationally and internationally. He also provides educational sessions for GPs and primary care clinicians on the assessment and management of male urinary symptoms, prostate enlargement, recurrent urinary infections and urethral strictures.

Outside medicine, Mr Sharqawi enjoys golf, travelling, spending time with his family and football.
