The extensive selection of eyewear caters to a variety of styles and preferences, ensuring there's something for everyone. Sports eyewear is another speciality, with options available for those with active lifestyles. O'Brien's always welcomes new registrations, maintaining a long-standing tradition of providing high-quality eye care in the community.

The team takes pride in delivering comprehensive care, with qualified optometrists ensuring that clients receive expert attention for their vision needs. From routine eye examinations to advanced OCT retinal scanning, their state-of-the-art technology enables thorough and precise prescription calculations. The practice is also renowned for providing treatment for Dry AMD using 'Photobiomodulation therapy' and for Dry Eye Syndrome using a combination of 'Intense Pulsating Light' (IPL) and PBM - their commitment to providing high-quality, tailored products, their team ensures that every patient receives the best possible care.

Our optometrist is Dr. Sheeraz Janjua, who is a Fellow of the College of Optometrists, Doctor of Optometry and the Director of O'Brien's Opticians. He has over 27 years of experience in optometry, with specialist expertise in complex spectacle prescriptions, Dry AMD, Dry Eye Disease, medical retina, glaucoma,  low-vision, sport vision and paediatric eye care including myopia
management. He is dedicated to providing the highest quality eye care to
his patients. Dr. Janjua was one of the first optometrists in the UK to offer photomedicine in the form of 'Photobiomodulation' for Dry AMD and Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) alongside Intense Pulsating Light (IPL) for Dry Eye disease. He has been shortlisted for the prestigious, 'UK Optometrist of the Year 2025' award at annual Optician award ceremony in December 2025. His special interests also include diagnosing and treating Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) with prismatic lenses (prisms). This can help patients control diplopia (double-vision), or simply their spatial awareness and hand to eye co-ordination.

Dr Janjua started his journey in Optometry in 1997 and completed his Bachelor's at the University of Bradford in 2000. In 2009, he began his
Doctor of Optometry degree at Aston University, graduating in 2017 after
researching dry eye disease and nutrition. During this time, he also completed his Diploma in Sport Vision in 2010 from the Association of Sport Vision and for a short time worked with the first-team players of Derby County FC.

Dr. Janjua holds several professional certificates awarded by the College of Optometrists following extensive examinations by Cardiff University. The higher qualifications include Glaucoma, Low Vision, Medical Retina, and Paediatric Eye Care. He recently completed a Master's degree in Clinical Optometry from Cardiff University, where he conducted an extensive literature review on photobiomodulation and diabetic eye disease.

In recent years, Dr. Janjua was runner-up in the prestigious UK Optician Awards:

  • Optometrist of the Year 2018
  • Independent Practice of the Year 2019 - O'Brien's Opticians

Fantastic opticians, wish we'd found them sooner. The staff couldn't be any friendlier and to have an Opticians on our doorstep that has the experience and knowledge of eye sight in people with Down's syndrome is amazing.

About a 20 minute wait, but was offered a drink, and reception staff kept me updated. I was not in a hurry, so not a problem.

Staff are friendly and professional, the shop and clinic are always clean. Dr Janjua , thoroughly checked my eyes, it was decided I required a referral. Which is now in progress.
