There is the plaque related kind that can be prevented by improved oral hygiene; good old regular brushing and flossing + seeing a hygienist regularly but then there’s the kind when whatever the person does, the situation is just not changing enough in proportion to the efforts. Why can’t we ignore gum disease and just give up in these scenarios? 

❓Did you know there’s a link between gum disease and diabetes? You are far more likely to have gum disease if you have diabetes and vice versa
❓Did you know that Alzheimer’s Disease is now referred to as Diabetes type III in the functional medicine community
❓ Did you know that there is a link between gum disease and Alzheimer’s and dementia 
❓Did you know that there’s a link between gum disease and cardiovascular disease 

So when we say we take a multidisciplinary approach, the above are the reasons why we do so. At Munro-Hall Clinic we not only test the microbiome of the mouth but we also encourage the patients who are affected by non-responsive and advanced gum disease in particular to also seek care with a functional medicine Dr / practitioner, a nutritionist or a naturopath.
