I am a HCPC-registered Arts Psychotherapist (AS13727), BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (180287), and fully trained EMDR therapist (EMDR Europe, 2025). I also hold a postgraduate certificate in Creative Supervision from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.
I am described as an Advanced Clinical Academic Arts Psychotherapist and Principal Dramatherapist with Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, where I have worked since 2008. I also have an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University and currently holds a four-year National Institute for Health and Care Research Senior Clinical Practitioner Research Award.
I have extensive experience working with anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, stress, low self-esteem, neurodiversity, and complex emotional difficulties. My therapeutic approach is compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based, drawing primarily on CBT and EMDR to support meaningful and lasting change.
Alongside my clinical work, I am an experienced clinical researcher with expertise in trauma-focused interventions, arts psychotherapies, and mental health in people with learning disabilities. She has led and collaborated on national and international research projects and has secured over £1.4 million in competitive research funding.
i have published widely in peer-reviewed journals including The Arts in Psychotherapy, British Journal of Learning Disabilities, and Journal of Public Mental Health. I am a peer reviewer for the Journal of Applied Research in Intellectual Disabilities, serve on the editorial board of Dramatherapy, and have recenty co-authored a forthcoming book on manualised arts therapy interventions for theory, practice, and training.
I also have Associate Researcher status at Edge Hill University, where I have delivered and supervised training in the Arts for the Blues programme.
