Freedom Vision - Southampton

I was most impressed with my YAG laser treatment. Optomotrist was unhurried, reassuringly capable and a good explainer. YAG laser capsulotomy a bit like living in the future. Great result.

I had two cataract procedures at the Southampton clinic. Unfortunately during the first procedure I experienced complications due to a then, unknown underlying genetic condition. Freedom vision were excellent in the after-care and ensuring that the resultant complication and prolonged remedial checks and appointments were made. The staff were so kind and helpful (thank you to Jackie, Prof. Newsom and the team). Once vision was restored, the second procedure went well, the team were prepared for the complication. My cataracts are gone, I have excellent intermediate and distance vision for the first time since I was six or seven years old (previous prescription -5.5/-6) and the astigmatism is compensated for. It was a scary few months, I wondered if I may be visually impaired, however, the team were as reassuring, kind and empathetic as you could possibly hope for; the outcome was better than I anticipated.

I arrived, waited, was led through testing procedures in a friendly manner, and had the laser process explained before it was applied, my transport was contacted and I left as a very happy customer.

From my initial appointment I found all staff to be approachable, happy to answer questions and putting any anxieties to rest. During the cataract operation nurses show empathy to any concerns and very seamless in its process. Aftercare faultless and thorough, very satisfied with overall outcome and would recommend freedom vision.

Outstanding service and outcome. One small issue only - my second eye procedure was deferred by 3 weeks because my eye surgeon had a 'personal family issue' arise a few days beforehand. (But these things happen, so no big deal). Everyone from Jackie, through to the surgeon, the ophthalmologist, the clinical and other support staff were excellent. Jackie in particular was very attentive ensuring convenient appointment times and following up by phone after consultations and surgeries. I received good and helpful advice throughout.

I had my first cataract op with EMV lens on 1st July and my second on 4th August 2024. The whole experience was very positive. The surgeon Prof Richard Newsom was extremely kind, even when my BP was sky high. He went out of his way to calm me. At the second op he thought that it needed tweaked a little from the previously agreed. The result is fantastic distance and reading vision. A very skilful surgeon and extremely kind man. am 75 and honestly I don’t think I’ve ever in my life seen so well. 52 years of contact lenses!
