Dr. Mohammed Shafi

Dr Mohammed Shafi is a general and laparoscopic surgeon based at Al Ahalia Hospital, Musaffah, Abu Dhabi. He has over 12 years of experience in the field, five of which were in the UAE.

He works at the forefront of surgery, managing both emergency and elective cases. His scope of expertise covers a wide range of areas, including:

• General surgery - open abdominal surgery and minimally invasive procedures, breast and axilla surgery, head and neck, thyroid disease
• Neurosurgery - all types of neurotrauma
• Chest surgery - including thoracotomy and diaphragm repair
• Vascular surgery - stripping and avulsion for varicose veins
• Urology - orchidectomy, hydrocele, varicocele, circumcision
• Plastic surgery - major buns, skin graft
• Endoscopic procedures - upper GIT endoscopy, colonoscopy

He performs a range of open abdominal surgeries, including emergency laparotomy for perforated viscus, peritonitis, penetrating and blunt abdominal traumatic injuries, intestinal obstruction, splenectomy, liver repair, bowel resection, and anastomosis emergency nephrectomy. He is also able to diagnose and manage benign and malignant breast diseases, performing mastectomy, conservative breast surgery and breast lump excision.

Dr Shafi holds a diploma in laparoscopy from the Indian Institute of Laparoscopic Surgery which involved both basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery. He undertook his MBBS in 2005 from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences before going on to complete an MS in General Surgery in 2010.

He is also involved in research and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students at Yenepoya Medical College Hospital.
