Dr. Maya Barake

Dr Maya Barake is a well experienced Consultant Endocrinologist at Clemenceau Medical Center with expertise in the assessment and treatment of various endocrine disorders, encompassing diabetes, lipid irregularities, adrenal and thyroid conditions, and hormonal reproductive issues. She holds specialised international training and certification in managing obesity, pituitary diseases, and osteoporosis.

Her academic journey began at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, where she completed her undergraduate and medical studies. Dr Barake furthered her education with an internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. She went on to pursue a one-year fellowship in Pituitary Disorders at the Neuroendocrine Clinical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Returning to Lebanon, she earned a Master's Degree in Health Research through the American University of Beirut Scholars in Health Research Program.

During her training, Dr Barake received the Endocrinology Excellence Award in Research for two consecutive years. Elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in 2010, she holds certifications in Endocrinology & Diabetes from the Royal College of Physicians, UK, as well as international certifications in bone densitometry evaluation and obesity management.

Apart from her clinical practice, Dr Barake holds key roles in international and Lebanese medical societies. She is a founding member of the Gulf & Lebanon steering committee of the World Obesity Federation and an expert member of the Obesity Recommendations Group. Additionally, she actively contributes to the Executive Committee of the Lebanese Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Lipids.

Dr Barake's research focus lies in obesity, bone disorders, and pituitary disorders, resulting in publications in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, Pituitary, and Endocrine.
