Dr. Aneela Darbar is a highly accomplished Consultant Neurosurgeon. She is an MD, FAANS (Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons), FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons), and a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurosurgery. Dr. Darbar has developed her expertise through specialised fellowships in Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery in Australia and Skull Base Surgery in the USA.
With 14 years of dedicated experience, Dr. Darbar is well-versed in addressing complex brain and spine diseases. Her educational background includes a post-doctoral research fellowship in Neurosciences, followed by comprehensive Neurosurgery residency training at the State University of New York (SUNY) in Syracuse. Subsequently, she pursued a fellowship in minimally invasive cranial surgery in Sydney, Australia, followed by a second fellowship focusing on open skull base and vascular disease in the United States.
Before joining KCH, Dr. Darbar held the position of Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Saint Louis University Hospital in Missouri. Over the course of her career, she has successfully performed more than 2500 surgeries and procedures related to the brain and spine.
Dr. Darbar is particularly passionate about minimally invasive brain surgery, employing smaller incisions and endoscopic techniques. She specialises in awake brain tumour surgery resection to preserve functional areas of the brain. As a leading Neurosurgeon in Dubai, she continues to explore innovative ways to utilise endoscopes for brain pathologies. Her contributions to the field are reflected in her authorship of 5 book chapters and numerous peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Darbar has also served as a teaching faculty member for surgical anatomy courses catering to senior neurosurgery residents, medical students, and even high school students in the US. Her dedication has earned her recognition, including the Teaching and Humanitarian award at SUNY Syracuse and the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award by Dow Graduate Association.
Beyond her surgical accomplishments, Dr. Darbar has delivered over 100 talks on Neurosurgery and Women Empowerment, including a TedX talk on Brain Mapping during complex brain tumour resections. She is the founding Chair for Women in Neurosurgery (WIN) in Pakistan and currently serves as the Vice-Chair of WIN for the Asian Congress of Neurosurgeons.
Dr. Darbar's Special Interests cover a wide array of neurological and neurosurgical areas, including minimally invasive cranial surgery, endoscopic and open brain tumour resection, skull base surgery, awake brain tumour surgery, paediatric brain tumour surgery, endoscopic repair of CSF leaks, craniosynostosis surgery, myelomeningocele repair, vagal nerve stimulator surgery for intractable epilepsy, all spine traumatic and degenerative surgery, spinal cord tumour resection, carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve release surgery, and epidural, facet, and transforaminal injections for back pain.
