Dr Thiru Prasanna

Dr Thiru Prasanna is a highly dedicated Medical Oncologist who is deeply committed to providing evidence-based, compassionate care to patients navigating cancer diagnoses. He works collaboratively within multidisciplinary cancer care teams to ensure that each patient receives a comprehensive, co-ordinated treatment plan tailored to their unique needs. Dr Prasanna strongly believes in empowering his patients and their families by providing clear, honest, and transparent information regarding their treatment options and the latest advancements in oncology.

Dr Prasanna completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the University of Peradeniya in 2005. He subsequently undertook his Specialist Physician and Medical Oncology training in Canberra, followed by a prestigious phase one clinical trial fellowship in Sydney. He was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and went on to complete a PhD at the University of Canberra, where he investigated novel biomarkers and therapeutic agents to improve breast cancer outcomes. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Prasanna is an Associate Clinical Lecturer, actively teaching medical students and physician trainees, and serves as an Examiner for both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a prominent national medical school.

With a strong background in clinical and translational research, Dr Prasanna has a particular interest in solid tumour malignancies. His clinical focus encompasses breast cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, and sarcoma, as well as gastrointestinal malignancies, including gastrointestinal stromal tumours and neuroendocrine tumours. As a principal investigator in biomarker studies, he remains at the forefront of oncology research, striving to integrate cutting-edge clinical trials and innovative therapies into patient care to achieve the best possible clinical outcomes.
