Dr. Josh Hurwitz

Dr Hurwitz is a medical oncologist with a subspecialty interest in breast and genitourinary cancers. He believes the intersection of clinical practice, academia, and education is central to being a well-rounded, holistic, and compassionate clinician. Dr Hurwitz is at the forefront of oncology and serves as principal investigator and sub-investigator on numerous breast and genitourinary cancer trials, ensuring his patients have access to the most cutting-edge medicine and technology.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Hurwitz pursues his academic interests, including a PhD in metastatic breast cancer at Monash University. His research has been published and presented nationally and internationally. Educational interests include co-hosting the internationally acclaimed podcast Oncology for the Inquisitive Mind, training the next generation of specialists, and speaking at conferences.

Dr Hurwitz's training and experience have taken him across Australia. He completed his specialisation at Liverpool, Bankstown and St Vincent's Hospitals in Sydney. He then furthered his training at the Kinghorn Cancer Centre and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, undertaking a prestigious breast and genitourinary cancer fellowship under the guidance of Profs Elgene Lim and Anthony Joshua. These mentors, giants in the field, shaped Dr Hurwitz's approach to patient care, matching treatment to the individual and the underlying biology rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. He also completed an observership at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Outside of oncology, most of his time goes to his wife and their two young children, and whatever's left usually goes to ABC Classic FM, photography, or a run.
