Dr Stephen Thompson

Dr Stephen Thompson is a highly regarded Radiation Oncologist who is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centred care. As a Senior Staff Specialist, he focuses on delivering advanced radiation therapies tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Dr Thompson is committed to utilising cutting-edge technology and evidence-based techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients, ensuring they feel supported and informed throughout their treatment journey.

With a strong focus on clinical excellence, Dr Thompson possesses specialised expertise in treating soft tissue sarcomas and gastrointestinal malignancies, including pancreatic cancer. He is particularly skilled in utilising highly precise radiation techniques, such as Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT), Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT), and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT). These advanced modalities allow him to target tumours with exceptional accuracy while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in cancer clinical trials and research, contributing to the advancement of oncology treatments and the training of future medical professionals.

Dr Thompson completed his medical degree (MBBS) and subsequently undertook extensive specialist training in Radiation Oncology at leading tertiary hospitals, followed by a prestigious fellowship. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), reflecting his deep commitment to academic research and clinical innovation. Dr Thompson is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR). He actively contributes to the wider medical community through his involvement with several state and national scientific advisory committees, including the Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA) Scientific Advisory Committee, where he serves on the Sarcoma Guidelines Working Party and the Database Working Group.
