His primary clinical interests encompass musculoskeletal medicine, with a particular focus on low back pain and whiplash, as well as men's health, aged care, and the early identification of dementia in the community. He is also actively involved in research and clinical practice relating to telehealth, palliative care, and systems change in medical service delivery.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Willcock is a prominent leader in the medical community. He has served in numerous high-level governance roles, including Deputy Chair of a regional health network, Chair of an aged care clinical governance committee, and Chair of a major medical indemnity group. He has also contributed his expertise to a doctors' health advisory service and the Australian Medical Association Council of General Practice. In recognition of his significant service to primary healthcare and tertiary education, Dr Willcock was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2023 King's Birthday Honours List.
