Dr Sally Sweeney

Dr Sally Sweeney is a highly dedicated General Practitioner who specialises in sexual and reproductive healthcare. Based in Newcastle West, she provides comprehensive, patient-centred care with a focus on empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health. Dr Sweeney is committed to delivering supportive, evidence-based medical services, ensuring that every patient receives personalised and compassionate attention.

With extensive clinical expertise, Dr Sweeney assists patients with a diverse range of healthcare needs. Her primary areas of interest include sexual and reproductive medicine, encompassing all aspects of pregnancy care such as pre-conception planning, antenatal support, and unplanned pregnancy management. She is highly skilled in providing contraception options, including intrauterine device (IUD) insertions, as well as managing menopause healthcare, period control, and sexual health concerns, including sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening and treatment. Additionally, she contributes her expertise as a Visiting Medical Officer supporting voluntary assisted dying services.

Dr Sweeney graduated with her medical degree from the University of New South Wales in 2003. Alongside her clinical practice, she is deeply involved in medical education and clinical research. She serves as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer with the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle and holds a leadership role as a Medical Lead at a prominent national sexual and reproductive health research centre. Dr Sweeney is also actively engaged in training the next generation of medical professionals, serving as a Registrar Supervisor and having previously worked as a Clinical Examiner for the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
