Dr Robert Sew Hoy

Dr Robert Sew Hoy is an accomplished Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in the treatment of hip and knee conditions, as well as trauma surgery. With a patient-centred approach, he focuses on restoring mobility and quality of life to individuals experiencing debilitating joint pain and musculoskeletal disorders. Dr Sew Hoy utilises advanced, modern technologies to individualise treatment plans, ensuring each patient receives care tailored to their unique needs and lifestyle goals.

His clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of advanced surgical procedures, with a particular emphasis on minimally invasive techniques. Dr Sew Hoy is highly skilled in performing direct anterior approach total hip replacements and robotic-assisted total knee replacements. Additionally, his surgical repertoire includes revision hip and knee replacements, knee arthroscopy, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, and complex trauma and fracture surgeries. He is dedicated to employing evidence-based practices to achieve optimal surgical outcomes and facilitate a smoother recovery process for his patients.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Sew Hoy is deeply committed to medical education and leadership within the orthopaedic community. He has served as a Director of Training for orthopaedic registrars and contributes significantly to the academic curriculum by writing and lecturing on hip joint syllabus topics. Dr Sew Hoy completed his medical degree (MB ChB) and subsequently undertook specialist training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association programme. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2004. To further refine his skills, he completed a prestigious Arthroplasty Fellowship at Harvard Medical School teaching hospitals in Boston, USA. In 2013, he was awarded a Master of Medicine degree with merit from the University of Sydney, where he also completed the Clinical Teacher Programme. Dr Sew Hoy is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Australian Orthopaedic Association, the Australian Medical Association, and the Warringah District Medical Association.
