Dr Ramesh Durairaj

Dr Ramesh Durairaj is a highly accomplished Consultant Geriatrician and Stroke Physician dedicated to providing comprehensive, holistic care for older individuals. With a deep commitment to enhancing the quality of life for his patients, Dr Durairaj specialises in managing complex geriatric syndromes, cognitive disorders, and stroke-related conditions. His clinical approach is patient-centred and reassuring, ensuring that older adults and their families receive the support and expertise required to navigate the challenges of ageing.

Dr Durairaj completed his postgraduate Doctor of Medicine in General Medicine in India before pursuing advanced specialist training in Geriatric Medicine and Stroke Medicine in the United Kingdom, qualifying in 2005. Demonstrating a commitment to clinical excellence, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2006. Following his relocation to Australia, he attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2016. Throughout his career, Dr Durairaj has held prominent leadership roles, including serving as a Clinical Director of Aged Care and Stroke Services, a Director of Stroke Training, and a Research Director of Vascular Neurology. He has also actively contributed to clinical research as a Primary Investigator in numerous stroke and cognitive trials.

In his daily practice, Dr Durairaj offers expert assessment and management for a wide range of age-related conditions. His areas of clinical interest include cognitive impairment, dementia, Parkinson's disease, falls, and complex comorbidities. As a specialist in stroke medicine, he provides comprehensive care for patients recovering from stroke, manages post-stroke medical complications, and oversees outpatient rehabilitation. He is also experienced in the management of low-risk transient ischaemic attacks and conducts domiciliary visits for patients residing in residential aged care facilities, ensuring accessible and continuous care for those who need it most.
