Dr Ralph Stanford

Dr Ralph Stanford is a highly regarded Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in adult spinal surgery. With a patient-centred approach, he is dedicated to providing expert diagnosis and comprehensive management for a wide range of complex spinal conditions. Dr Stanford is committed to helping patients restore their mobility and quality of life, ensuring that surgical options are only recommended when they offer clear, long-term benefits. His clinical practice encompasses the treatment of degenerative spinal disorders, spinal trauma, tumours, infections, and acquired spinal deformities.

Dr Stanford completed his Bachelor of Medical Science in 1985, followed by his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 1988 at the University of Tasmania. He went on to complete his specialist orthopaedic training in Sydney, obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2000. To further refine his expertise, he undertook a twelve-month advanced spinal fellowship in the United States in 2001. He was awarded a PhD from the University of New South Wales in 2002 and became a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2003. Dr Stanford is an active member of several professional bodies, including the Spine Society of Australia, the Australian Medical Association, and the Australian Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Stanford is deeply involved in medical education and scientific research. He serves as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer, where he teaches and mentors undergraduate medical students and supervises training for orthopaedic registrars. As an Honorary Senior Scientist, he contributes to clinical research aimed at advancing the understanding and treatment of spinal cord injuries and complex spinal disorders.
