About Dr Ben Schwarz
Dr. Ben Schwarz is an Australian-trained Orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in managing conditions of the hip and knee as well as general orthopaedic trauma.
Dr. Schwarz studied Medicine at the University of New South Wales and graduated with honours in 2008. After completing his junior medical years at Liverpool, Fairfield and Tweed hospitals, Dr. Schwarz was selected to undertake specialist training in Orthopaedic surgery by the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2013. He completed his training and was awarded his Fellowship by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2018.
After obtaining his fellowship, Dr. Schwarz spent 6 months working as a consultant surgeon at a major trauma service hospital in NSW. He then went overseas to Canada and undertook a fellowship in London, Ontario with a focus on primary and revision hip and knee replacement. On his return to Australia he completed a further knee fellowship focusing on knee arthroplasty and arthroscopic reconstruction. This augmented his previous training in uni-compartmental and total knee arthroplasty including revision arthroplasty, as well as furthering his training in re-alignment osteotomy, arthroscopic ligament reconstruction, patello-femoral (kneecap) dysfunction, management of cartilage injury and meniscal repair.
Dr. Schwarz is committed to providing excellent individualised care to his patients utilising current best practices, along with an open caring approach to patients and their families. He has a strong interest in research, teaching, and medical education, which has led him to becoming involved in undergraduate medical teaching at various universities throughout his career. In addition to his clinical work, Dr Schwarz frequently presents at local and national conferences, and he has had numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals.

Ben is a down to earth type of person & explains very well what is required before & after the surgery He gives you paper copies of what he has explained so that it can be taken home & re-read in your own time.He was very thorough with all the scans that were required & if he wasn’t happy with one of the scans he asked for it to be done again. The hospital staff & his team were exceptionally on the day of the surgery After the operation if there were any questions his receptionist would go out of her way too assist with these inquiries & always got back to you either by phone or email. I have the utmost respect for Ben & his team that he has working with him & would recommend Ben too anyone that is deciding to have a operation
When I met Dr Schwarz I felt comfortable straight away. He had a wonderful bedside manner, he was respectful and patient and he took the time to explain everything clearly, and at no time did I feel my appointment was rushed. Dr Schwarz was very clear and thorough and his explanation of my injury, explaining it visually on a diagram, and outlining the surgical procedure to rectify. He’s bedside manner is very warm and compassionate. I highly recommend Dr Schwarz. without hesitation.
Dr. Schwarz beside being courteous, explained in plain English all the relevant facts regarding a full knee replacement and offered choices rather than tell me what I should do. Much appreciated. I hope I do not need the same operation on my other knee but if I do, Dr. Schwarz will be the surgeon I will seek to undertake the operation.
