Dr Peter Sumich

Dr Peter Sumich is a highly accomplished Consultant Ophthalmologist and Cataract and Refractive Surgeon. Based in Parramatta, Australia, he is dedicated to providing patients with advanced vision correction solutions. Dr Sumich has a particular clinical interest in refractive cataract surgery, laser vision correction, and the management of complex eye diseases. Dr Sumich graduated with Honours from a prominent university in New South Wales in 1990. He initially completed his residency and trained as an Emergency Medicine Specialist at a major metropolitan hospital, where he was awarded a prestigious academic medal. Transitioning to ophthalmic surgery, he completed his specialist training at a renowned eye hospital in Sydney, serving as the Professorial Senior Registrar in his final year. After obtaining his Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists, he was awarded a travelling scholarship to further his surgical expertise in England, completing a Corneal and Cataract Surgery Fellowship at a specialist eye hospital in Bristol. His advanced training also earned him registration as a Specialist Eye Surgeon with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom.

Throughout his career, Dr Sumich has been actively involved in clinical education and professional leadership. He has served as a Clinical Lecturer in ophthalmology and has trained registrars in cataract surgery at major public hospitals. Dr Sumich has held significant leadership roles within the ophthalmic community, including serving as the President of the Australian Society of Ophthalmologists and the Chairman of the Independent Ophthalmologists Association. He is also a member of both the Australian and American Societies of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, having been appointed to an international advisory council of thought leaders.
