Dr Paul Froomes

Dr Paul Froomes is a highly qualified Consultant Gastroenterologist who provides comprehensive care for patients experiencing a wide range of gastrointestinal and liver disorders. Based in Prahran, Victoria, he is dedicated to diagnosing and managing complex digestive issues with a focus on restoring gut health and overall well-being. Dr Froomes is particularly recognised for his pioneering work in microbiome medicine, utilising advanced therapies to address the root causes of chronic gut conditions rather than merely managing symptoms.

Dr Froomes completed his undergraduate medical education at Monash University, obtaining a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. He then undertook Specialist Physician training with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians at a major teaching hospital in Melbourne. Furthering his academic pursuits, he earned a postgraduate Doctor of Medicine degree in liver disease from the University of Melbourne, where his research focused on hepatic physiology. To complement his extensive training, Dr Froomes completed advanced sub-specialty training in advanced endoscopic techniques in Sydney and specialist oesophageal physiology in Adelaide. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and has previously served as a College Examiner.

In his clinical practice, Dr Froomes offers expert care across general gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy. His areas of clinical interest include inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, reflux oesophagitis, Coeliac disease, and fatty liver disease. He is board-certified in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as colonoscopy and gastroscopy. Dr Froomes is passionate about patient education and actively contributes to training General Practitioners in microbiome-based therapies, ensuring a collaborative approach to patient care.
