Prof. Owen White

Prof. Owen White is a highly distinguished Neurologist who specialises in the diagnosis and management of a broad spectrum of neurological conditions. With specific, advanced training in neuro-ophthalmology, he uniquely combines neurological and ophthalmological techniques to evaluate and treat patients experiencing complex disorders. His clinical focus encompasses general neurological disorders, with particular expertise in multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, and stroke. Prof. White is also widely recognised for his pioneering work in understanding and managing visual snow syndrome, a sensory misperception condition for which he has helped establish international diagnostic criteria.

In addition to his clinical practice, Prof. White is deeply committed to medical research and academic advancement. He serves as the Director of an ocular motor research laboratory, where he investigates the cognitive control of eye movements in relation to various neurological conditions, including stroke and concussion. His research efforts also extend to developing innovative technologies aimed at improving the diagnosis, management, and prevention of sports-related concussions. As an Adjunct Clinical Professor, he actively contributes to the education of future medical professionals and collaborates on international research initiatives to advance the field of neurology.

Prof. White obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Melbourne, qualifying in 1973. He subsequently undertook extensive postgraduate training in general medicine, neurology, and neuro-ophthalmology across Melbourne, Toronto, and London. He completed a Master of Science in Medicine at the University of Toronto in 1982, and later earned both Doctor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Prof. White is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, reflecting his high standing within the medical community and his ongoing commitment to professional excellence.
