Dr Omar Farouque

Dr Omar Farouque is a highly regarded Cardiologist and Interventional Cardiologist based in Melbourne, Australia. He specialises in general and interventional cardiology, focusing on advanced techniques to treat blocked arteries and various forms of heart valve disease. With a strong commitment to patient-centred care, Dr Farouque is dedicated to delivering optimal cardiovascular outcomes and helping patients navigate their recovery with confidence and reassurance.

Dr Farouque graduated with Honours from the University of Adelaide in 1993, obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He completed his clinical training in cardiology in Melbourne, earning a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He subsequently completed a Doctor of Philosophy in cardiovascular medicine at Monash University. Following this, he was awarded a prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council scholarship, which supported two years of intensive study and training at Stanford University in California, USA. Dr Farouque is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, and a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Farouque is a Clinical Professor in the medical faculty at the University of Melbourne and has contributed extensively to international heart research, authoring numerous peer-reviewed articles. He has held significant leadership roles, including serving as the Director of Cardiology at a major metropolitan health service. Dr Farouque is also actively involved in community and international outreach, volunteering his expertise to train local Specialists overseas and supporting the development of cardiac services in rural areas.
