Dr Neil Sharma

Dr Neil Sharma is a highly qualified Ophthalmologist, Medical Retina Specialist, and Ophthalmic Surgeon based in Waterloo, Sydney. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of medical retinal conditions and general eye diseases. His clinical interests include cataract surgery, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusions, and central serous retinopathy (CSR). Additionally, Dr Sharma provides comprehensive care for general ophthalmology conditions, such as dry eye disease, blepharitis, glaucoma, and eye emergencies. He is also a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and serves as an Independent Specialist Adviser and Court Specialist Expert Witness regarding private and commercial vehicle driving licence assessments.

Dr Sharma completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of New South Wales, graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours. Concurrently, he obtained a Master of Public Health from the same institution. Committed to academic excellence, he later earned a Master of Medicine in cataract and refractive surgery from the University of Sydney. Dr Sharma completed his specialist ophthalmology training as a Registrar working through a prominent tertiary teaching hospital network in New South Wales and the Northern Territory. He then pursued advanced post-graduate training, completing a fellowship in general ophthalmology at a leading university hospital, followed by a prestigious appointment as a Senior Clinical Fellow in medical retina at a renowned NHS trust in the United Kingdom.

Dedicated to education and research, Dr Sharma holds academic appointments as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at multiple prominent Australian universities. He is actively involved in teaching medical students and supervising accredited advanced training Registrars at a major public hospital, where he also serves as a Staff Specialist Ophthalmologist. Dr Sharma is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He maintains active membership in several prestigious local and international professional bodies, including the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists, the American Society of Retina Specialists, the European Society of Retinal Specialists, the Australian Medical Association, and the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine.
