Dr Michael Wertheim

Dr Michael Wertheim is a dedicated and highly accomplished Consultant Ophthalmologist and Ophthalmic Surgeon who provides comprehensive care for a wide range of eye conditions. With a patient-centred approach, he covers all aspects of general ophthalmology, ensuring that individuals receive tailored and reassuring treatment. His clinical focus encompasses the diagnosis and management of complex ocular conditions, helping patients maintain and improve their vision through advanced medical and surgical interventions.

In his clinical practice, Dr Wertheim has developed a particular interest in cataract surgery and pterygium surgery, including pterygium repair. He is also highly skilled in managing ocular inflammatory disorders, such as uveitis, as well as macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease. Notably, Dr Wertheim is credentialed to perform micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) using the Glaukos iStent, offering a modern, minimally invasive treatment option for patients living with glaucoma. Beyond his clinical work, he has contributed significantly to the ophthalmic community through extensive publications in international medical journals and presentations of his research at global conferences.

Dr Wertheim obtained his primary medical degree, Medicinae Baccalaureus, Baccalaureus Chirurgiae. He then completed his specialist training in Ophthalmology in the United Kingdom. To further refine his expertise, he undertook prestigious subspecialty fellowship training in Portland, Oregon, in the United States, as well as in Western Australia. Dr Wertheim is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) in the United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO), reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of ophthalmic care.
