Dr Michael MacManus

Dr Michael MacManus is a highly accomplished Radiation Oncologist who specialises in the treatment of various cancers, with a particular focus on lung cancer and haematological malignancies. As a dedicated Radiation Oncologist, he is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care to his patients. Dr MacManus utilises advanced radiotherapy techniques and state-of-the-art imaging technologies to design highly targeted treatment plans, ensuring the best possible outcomes while prioritising patient comfort and well-being.

Throughout his career, Dr MacManus has developed a deep interest in the integration of advanced imaging, particularly positron emission tomography (PET), into radiotherapy planning. His clinical work and research also encompass stereotactic ablative radiotherapy, mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance, and the combination of systemic therapies and immunotherapies with radiation. By actively participating in clinical trials and translational research, he contributes to the global advancement of oncology, helping to refine treatment protocols and improve survival rates for patients worldwide.

Dr MacManus completed his undergraduate medical training at Queen's University Belfast, qualifying with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB BCh) in 1983. He subsequently earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the same institution, focusing his research on anaemia, erythropoietin, and tumour oxygenation. Dr MacManus completed his specialist training in General Medicine and Clinical Oncology, obtaining membership as a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and fellowships as a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) in London and a Fellow of the Faculty of Radiologists, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FFRRCSI). He is also a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR).
