Dr Melissa Kelly

Dr Melissa Kelly is a highly dedicated Infectious Diseases Specialist and Sexual Health Specialist who provides comprehensive, compassionate care to her patients. Based in Newcastle, Australia, she focuses on delivering holistic and inclusive healthcare, with a particular emphasis on supporting the LGBTQ+ community. Her clinical practice encompasses a wide range of complex conditions, ensuring that patients receive personalised and supportive treatment tailored to their unique health needs.

With a deep commitment to patient-centred care, Dr Kelly specialises in the management of complex infectious diseases and sexual health concerns. Her areas of clinical interest include HIV management, viral hepatitis (including Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C), and the treatment of infections in immunocompromised patients. Additionally, she is highly regarded for her expertise in medical gender affirmation and gender-affirming hormone therapy, working closely with transgender and gender-diverse individuals to provide safe, supportive, and integrated care.

Dr Kelly began her healthcare journey by earning a Bachelor of Nursing from ACU National in 2004, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine with Distinction from the University of Newcastle in 2009. Committed to advancing her expertise, she completed a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine at James Cook University in 2015. She is a recognised Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Infectious Diseases, qualifying in 2017, and became a Fellow of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine (FAChSHM) in 2019.
