Dr Teng completed his medical degree at Airlangga University Medical School in Surabaya, Indonesia, before relocating to Australia. He successfully completed the Australian Medical Examining Council examinations in 1983 to qualify for practice within the Australian healthcare system. Demonstrating a strong commitment to professional excellence, Dr Teng is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and a Fellow of the Australian Medical Acupuncture College (FAMAC).
