Dr Margaret Kay

Dr Margaret Kay is a highly respected and dedicated General Practitioner who provides comprehensive primary care with a compassionate, patient-centred approach. With a career deeply rooted in community medicine, she has developed a diverse clinical practice that spans all aspects of general medicine. Dr Kay is particularly recognised for her clinical expertise and advocacy in multicultural health, refugee health, and physician health. She is committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive healthcare, working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to maximise patient outcomes and support individuals from all backgrounds.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Kay is a prominent academic, researcher, and leader in the medical community. She holds an academic title as a Senior Lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine at The University of Queensland, where she actively contributes to medical education and primary care research. Her significant contributions to medicine, medical education, and migrant health were formally recognised when she was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM). Dr Kay has also held several key leadership roles, including serving as the Clinical Lead in Multicultural Health for a regional primary health network and as the inaugural Chair of the Refugee Health Network of Australia.

Dr Kay completed her medical training at The University of Queensland, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours (MBBS (Hons)) in 1983. Driven by a passion for improving healthcare systems, she later obtained a PhD in Physician Health from the same institution in 2013, focussing on the health-seeking behaviours of medical professionals. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) and holds a Diploma of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DipRACOG). Additionally, she is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), reflecting her strong commitment to clinical and corporate governance.
