Karen O'Maley

Karen O'Maley is a highly dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nurse Consultant specialising in neurology and neurosurgical nursing, with a particular focus on movement disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) therapy. Throughout her distinguished career, she has committed herself to providing compassionate, patient-centred care for individuals navigating complex neurological conditions. Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams alongside Neurologists and other healthcare professionals, O'Maley plays a pivotal role in supporting patients and their families, offering comprehensive clinical assessments, education, and medically directed treatments to improve their quality of life.

With extensive experience in the subspecialty of movement disorders, O'Maley is an expert in the management of conditions such as Parkinson's disease, dystonia, essential tremor, and Tourette's syndrome. Her clinical practice encompasses the entire spectrum of DBS patient care, including pre-operative work-up assessments, post-operative DBS programming, and ongoing therapy management. Additionally, she is highly skilled in supporting patients undergoing injection therapies for movement disorders and managing complex symptoms such as orthostatic hypotension in Parkinson's disease. Her reassuring approach ensures that patients and their support networks feel fully informed and guided at every stage of their treatment journey.
