Dr Josephine McCarthy

Dr Josephine McCarthy is a highly dedicated and compassionate Endocrinologist who is committed to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care to her patients. She believes in a holistic approach to medicine, working closely with individuals to develop tailored treatment plans that address their unique endocrine health needs. With a strong background in patient care, Dr McCarthy focuses on empowering her patients through education and clear communication, ensuring they feel supported throughout their healthcare journey.

Before specialising in endocrinology, Dr McCarthy completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours and worked as a Registered Pharmacist at a major metropolitan hospital. She then pursued her medical training, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours from Monash University in 2011, where she was awarded the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Victorian State Committee Prize in Clinical Medicine. She completed her Basic Physician Training and Advanced Physician Training in Endocrinology across several metropolitan health services, achieving her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2022. She is also a PhD Candidate, conducting advanced clinical research into endocrine hypertension and cardiovascular outcomes.

As a Consultant Endocrinologist, Dr McCarthy manages a broad spectrum of endocrine disorders. Her clinical expertise spans general endocrinology, including the management of Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes, gestational diabetes, and thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. She also has a keen clinical interest in bone and calcium disorders, osteoporosis, adrenal and pituitary conditions, and testosterone deficiency. Additionally, Dr McCarthy possesses specialised expertise in endocrine hypertension and primary aldosteronism, particularly its relationship with stroke and transient ischaemic attacks.
