Dr. Joseph O'Brien

Dr. Joseph O'Brien is a highly regarded General and Interventional Cardiologist based in Melbourne, Australia. He is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centred cardiovascular care, with a strong focus on preventative strategies and advanced treatment options. Dr. O'Brien is committed to helping patients understand their cardiovascular health, offering reassuring and evidence-based guidance to manage and optimise their heart function.

With a broad range of clinical interests, Dr. O'Brien specialises in the assessment and management of coronary artery disease, chest pain, atrial fibrillation, and pulmonary hypertension. He has a particular focus on cardiovascular risk assessment and optimisation, ensuring that patients receive tailored preventative care. Additionally, his clinical and research interests extend to coronary microvascular dysfunction, allowing him to offer contemporary insights into complex cardiac conditions.

Dr. O'Brien completed his medical degree with Honours at Monash University in 2012. He undertook extensive postgraduate training, including basic physician training and advanced cardiology training across several major health networks in Victoria. He completed a specialised fellowship in pulmonary hypertension, followed by an intensive fellowship in interventional cardiology. Committed to medical education, he also obtained a Graduate Certificate in Health Professional Education from the University of Melbourne and is currently undertaking a PhD programme focusing on coronary microvascular dysfunction. Dr. O'Brien is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
