Dr Joseph Lombardo

Dr Joseph Lombardo is a highly dedicated General Practitioner who provides comprehensive, patient-centred healthcare. With a strong foundation in family medicine, he is committed to delivering reassuring and professional medical care to individuals of all ages. Alongside his core general practice services, Dr Lombardo has developed a significant focus as a Sport Doctor, helping both active individuals and elite athletes manage and prevent physical injuries.

His clinical interests are diverse, spanning the management of acute and chronic back pain, workplace injuries, and paediatric musculoskeletal conditions. Dr Lombardo is particularly skilled in addressing complex joint and limb issues, including shoulder, knee, ankle, and foot injuries. His advanced clinical capabilities also extend to high altitude medicine, autologous blood therapies, and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection techniques. Over his career, he has served as the Chief Medical Officer for several prominent national sports teams, including rugby league and basketball organisations, and has contributed to medical literature with research on high-altitude physiology.

Dr Lombardo graduated with Honours from the University of New South Wales in 1978, earning his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He subsequently advanced his training by obtaining a Master of Exercise and Sports Science and a Master of Sports Medicine. He is a Fellow of Sports Doctors Australia, an organisation where he also served as a founding executive. Deeply committed to medical education, Dr Lombardo has been actively involved in teaching medical students at the University of New South Wales for several decades and serves as a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in the School of Medicine at Western Sydney University.
